How to Connect to Windows VPS Using RDP

RDP, also known as Remote Desktop Protocol, allows you to access your Windows VPS desktop remotely.

You Need

Before connecting, prepare:

  • VPS IP address
  • Username
  • Password
  • RDP port

Default RDP port:

3389

Common username:

Administrator

Your Windows VPS login details are sent to your registered email address after activation.

For Windows Users

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type:

mstsc

  1. Press Enter.
  2. In the Computer field, enter your VPS IP address.

Example:

192.0.2.10

  1. Click Connect.
  2. Enter your username.

Usually:

Administrator

  1. Enter your password.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Accept the certificate warning if shown.

For macOS Users

  1. Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store.
  2. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop.
  3. Click Add PC.
  4. Enter the VPS IP address.
  5. Add the username and password.
  6. Click Connect.

For Mobile Users

You can use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from your mobile app store.

However, desktop access is recommended for better control.

Correct Way to Disconnect

When finished, disconnect from the RDP session.

Do not shut down the VPS unless you know how to start it again from your control panel.
